Our Use of ALPR (Automatic License Plate Recognition)

The Sussex County Sheriff's Office utilizes ALPR technology in the performance of its law enforcement mission. These automated license plate recognition cameras are located in various locations throughout Sussex County.  Use of information gathered by the ALPR cameras is restricted and governed by Virginia Code 2.2-5517.  Sussex Sheriff's Office maintains strict compliance with all laws and regulations regarding their use.

What We Collect & Data Retention

  • License Plate Numbers (LPNs)

  • Date, Time, and GPS Location of Plate

  • Images of the Plate and Vehicle

Authorized Law Enforcement Mission Only

Privacy Protected by VA Code 2.2-5517
