Our Use of ALPR (Automatic License Plate Recognition)
The Sussex County Sheriff's Office utilizes ALPR technology in the performance of its law enforcement mission. These automated license plate recognition cameras are located in various locations throughout Sussex County. Use of information gathered by the ALPR cameras is restricted and governed by Virginia Code 2.2-5517. Sussex Sheriff's Office maintains strict compliance with all laws and regulations regarding their use.

It is the policy of this office that alerts of the Flock Camera System are monitored twenty-four hours a day. This allows law enforcement officers to be dispatched to all flock alarms as soon as possible. This policy also will build a streamline process for receiving, processing, dispatching, response to all flock alerts and retention. This policy is not all inclusive of 2.2-5517 Code of Virginia.
