Jury Duty
As citizens of Sussex County, you may be called upon to serve as a juror for the Sussex County Circuit Court. This is not only a great responsibility and civic duty, but also a great privilege. Being a juror allows ordinary citizens to directly participate in democracy and shape justice. You’re not just observing the system; you are the system in action.
Jury notices are delivered by deputies to citizens selected by the court. If you receive a jury duty notice, please complete and return the included forms in the self-addressed stamped envelope included in the package via US Mail.
There should be two contact numbers located at the bottom of the notice. The first phone number is for the Circuit Court Clerk's office. Please direct any questions or requests to be excused from jury duty to this phone number (434-246-1012). The second number is for the Sussex County Sheriff's Office. Please make contact via this phone number the night before a scheduled jury duty subpoena to confirm if the jury will proceed or if it has been canceled.
